Careers guidance

Update 16 Jan 2010

It’s CAO time again for 6 Years. The closing date for initial applications is Monday 1 February. As most of our 6 Years will go on to some type of further study, it is important to put some time into choosing a suitable course. Ms. Ní Bhriain, the Guidance Counsellor, is available for consultation at all times to assist the students. The new Careers Library is well stocked with copies of the current prospectus for each 3 Level College in Ireland and has dedicated fast Internet Access for students wishing to keep up to date with Career Matters on the Internet.

2.14 of our 6 Years have applied for courses in the U.K., through the UCAS application system. Many of them have now received calls for interviews from colleges in England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland. We wish them all the best of luck.

3.All students are reminded to keep up to date with Career Matters on our In-House Careers Notice Board on the Public Server. Ms. Ní Bhriain updates this computerised Notice Board weekly, bringing all updates received from 3 Level Colleges, PLC Colleges, Employers, etc., to the attention of students and staff. A printed copy of the weekly update is on the Notice Board in the Careers Library.

4.Trips to Open Days & Colleges are being kept to minimum this year due to the cost of travelling. However, students are informed of the dates of any College Open Days and may make private arrangements to attend with their families. See
www.qualifax.ie for a list of dates and links to college websites.

6.Our Guidance Counsellor is available at all times to any student seeking advice or assistance. There is an Open Door policy at Ms. Ni Bhriain's office and students are welcome to drop in at any time during the day.
