Student Council

The history and current role of the student council

Set up during the academic year 1998 – 1999
A student council constitution is drawn up by the student council
One of the primary aims of student council is the representation of students by students
Structure of student council : 1 student ex each class in every year group
Student council meets 1 or 2 times per month – more if necessary
Student council has also met with parents’ council
A facilitator from the staff assists the students with the running of the council
Student council is involved in policy making in the school – eg. Anti-bullying initiative
An important role of student council is to bring
Student council members have become very active in outside organisations eg. I.S.P.C.C., European Youth Parliament Concern



STUDENT COUNCIL INITIATIVES

To Date:

Student Council Plans include:-

1. Anti-bullying initiative: This initiative has been discussed with
Parents’ Council and Management.

First Year Student Art Competition:

Pupil Mentoring Scheme:
Senior Cycle representatives are to investigate the setting up of a pupil mentoring pupil scheme. The aim of this would be to provide support for Junior students in the school who are experiencing difficulties with other students.
Anneke, Kristine and Anja are taking responsibility for this.

Student Council involvement with student enrolment:
Some Student Council representatives turned up for Open Night and took potential incoming First Years on guided tours of the school.
Some Student Council representatives will also be present for the Student induction evening for incoming First Years which will be held in May.

3 students represented our school at a european youth council meeting and with their argument against the motion of 'Advertising in sports should be banned', they won the competition. They will now represent the college in Strasbourg in October 2008.
