2.In March, college staff members completed an in-house First Aid course, which included training in vital areas such as Family and Friends CPR, and choking. Ms Mary Keohane facilitated the course and in April, she also provided training and full assessment certified by the HSE in the use of Defibrillators. As a result there are now 15 qualified First Responders, who are trained to use the defibrillators in an emergency whether in or outside the college. As a further support, in recent years, all Transition years also complete a Basic First Aid course, that includes Basic Life Support training, which is certified by the Red Cross. It is hoped that in the near future, the second defibrillator, which is stored in the college, will be kept in a place that is accessible for the local community in case of emergency.
3. On Friday 29th September, first years took part in "Friendship day", as part of the SPHE (Social, Personal and Health Education) programme. During the morning session, students engaged in activities in small groups, designed to help them make new friends and settle into the school. The afternoon was devoted to sports activities, which took place on the pitch outside. The day was a great success and even the damp weather in the afternoon could not dampen the first years enthusiasm. Thanks to Nicola Mc Cormick and Karen Sheehan.
