Parents getting involved

Parents Association

The history and current role of the parents’ association.

Schull Community Council Parents’ Council formed in 1991.
Our two main aims are:
(i) to assist with fundraising in aid of improved facilities for the college and
(ii) to discuss matters raised by our members and, when necessary, to make representations to the Principal on their behalf. Our past fund-raising efforts have included the Technology Centre (1994), the new College bus (2006) and last year, the new Resource Room (towards which we raised €20,400). We also provide assisstance when required for college events such as sports days and the annual concert.

Tim O’Connor thanked those parents who assisted at the Christmas concerts. He said that college finances were in good order at present, with no current needs of assistance by our Association.

Open Evening It was agreed that we would provide a presence at the Open Evening on Monday March 8. Martin will organise a table and chairs and an identifying sign. Several parents agreed to assist for parts of the evening.

SCHULL COMMUNITY COLLEGE - PARENTS ASSOCIATION May 2010

“THRIFT SHOP” at Schull Community College
Saturday 17 July 2010 10am – 4pm

Dear Parents

We have decided to start a school thrift shop which we hope will be of benefit to all parents and hopefully to our school. It will offer an outlet to everyone wishing to sell their old uniforms, sports gear and sailing equipment.

If you wish to avail of this service we will need the following to be done, making our job a little easier.

If you like to sell any above items:
School clothing for sale will need a tag pinned to the garment with the following details:
1. Name, 2. Telephone no, 3. E-mail, 4. Size, 5. Age, 6. Price.
All garments must be washed and pressed and in good condition.

All goods placed in plastic bags and left in the gym hall on June 4 between 9am and 4pm. Students are allowed a “non uniform day” on 4 June, which will help you to get the items washed and ready.

2 Drop off day July 9 between 10am and 4pm at:
Fastnet House, Baltimore
Morris Gallery, Skibbereen
Schull Community College Car Park between 10am and 12.00pm

If you would like to offer the goods as a donation to the school, you just need to leave the goods with DONATION written on the outside of the bag.

Any goods unsold must be collected on the day of sale (17 July) between 4,30 and 5.00pm, if not collected, items will go forward as a donation for Thrift Shop 2011.

If you would like any further details/info about the thrift shop idea you can contact
Brenda Dodd 0868363444
or Sandra Carthy 028-20515

Thank you for your kind support in this new venture, we hope it will benefit everybody.

Kind regards
Sandra & Brenda
