Parents getting involved

Parents Association

The history and current role of the parents’ association.

Schull Community Council Parents’ Council formed in 1991.
Our two main aims are:
(i) to assist with fundraising in aid of improved facilities for the college and
(ii) to discuss matters raised by our members and, when necessary, to make representations to the Principal on their behalf. Our past fund-raising efforts have included the Technology Centre (1994), the new College bus (2006) and last year, the new Resource Room (towards which we raised €20,400). We also provide assisstance when required for college events such as sports days and the annual concert.

A.O.B The question was raised as to whether we should fund-raise on a permanent basis or only as and when Mr O’Connor identifies a specific need. It was decided to confine it to the latter……. The idea of a Swapshop was raised where parents could buy and sell uniforms, books and other items. Will be discussed again at the next meeting.

Date of next meeting: Mon 1 Feb 2010.
