As this month is the last for the year, we hope you enjoyed our journey so far! It's been an interesting year with lots of memories, especially for the Class of 2008.
These are some of the activities the students took part in, in May 2008.
1.The U 15 1/2Girls football team won the Munster Championship this month. Well done to all the team. Details on the Ladies football link.
2.The boys U 14 football team won the county championship. Details on the football link.
3.The second year Art Class entered the Irish Times School Magazine competition, a competition to encourage creativity in students both in their writing and artistic expression in the form of a school magazine. The group received an award for "Creative Design". The prizes were presented at a ceremony at Trinity College Dublin, where the students were commended for their individual creativity and originality. The magazine is in the Art room for all to see!
4. Transition year students finished their year with a day trip paint balling in Kinsale. They are now on work experience after receiving their certificates of the courses they completed in the year.
5.The Leaving Certificate students finished their LCVP, Construction Studies, Engineering, Art, Ag Science, Oral French and German practical exams and are now studying hard for their final exam of secondary school - The Leaving Certificate. We wish the best to all the hard working students!
6. The music students put on a performance in the college called "Musical Chairs" on Thursday May 8th. Look at the photos on this page.
7. The French exchange students are here in the college for 2 weeks and there will be a full write up later on.
8.A big fun adventure day was held in the college on Friday May 9th. The idea was to have a four person team, that would relay from the kayak to orienteering to cycling to finish with a run. A group of 2nd year students won the race with the male teacher team coming in second. With the sun shining and the crowd cheering, it was a great days sports.
9. Our students who visited Lesotho returned with valuable life experiences to share with us. The report will be published as soon as possible.
10. The Leaving Certificates graduated on May 21st. Good luck in your future lives!
11.Our present 3rd years were recently given an introduction to Transition year for the year 2008-2009. The co-ordinator Yvonne O'Regan gave an overview of the year and the expectations of them.
12. Our table tennis team did well all year but last week lost their match against Bantry.
13.The final of the badminton tournament is held on May 19th.
14.The fifth year LCVP students held an Ice cream day for Down Syndrome Ireland, in the college and in the local primary school. They raised over €750.
15. The other LCVP class held a no uniform day, to raise funds for the resource room. They raised a total of €550.
16. The final LCVP class organised the soccer match between the staff and the 6th years! The commentary was provided by students and everyone had a really fantastic day especially when the teachers won 2-1. The funds for this went to the resource room.
17.Padraig O'Sullivan organised a fun walk, jog & run afternoon for all the school. With a beautiful day, the students walked over 500km and raised over €3,500.
18. Comhghairdeas do Roinn na Gaeilge a bhuaigh duais Foras na Gaeilge i mbliana.
Priomhaidhm na sceime seo- aitheantas a thabhairt do sharchleachtas i leith chur chun na Gaeilge labhartha.
This award will be presented on Tuesday May 27th, by Batt O Keeffe, an tAire Oideachais, in the Head Office of Foras Na Gaeilge, Merrion Square, Dublin.
Schull Community College's Irish department are being rewarded for their commitment and dedication to the promotion of Gaeilge labhartha, both within and outside the classroom. They are also getting a special mention for their use of I.T. in developing and promoting the spoken word.
