Latest news!

JANUARY

1. Parent Teacher meeting deferred, date to be announced later.

2. Open night on March 8th so all new students can visit the school and meet the teachers. The Wendy Smith Poetry awards will also be presented on the night.

3.The group of Transition year students prepared a project for the Young Scientist Competition and are hoping to do well in Dublin.
They were “Highly Commended” by judges at the recent BT Young Scientist Exhibition at the RDS in Dublin. This four day event proved very successful for the group who presented an exceptionally well researched project titled “Why Physical Activities drop off as students grow older”. The research was carried out on a cohort of fellow students at various stages of development from 1 year to Leaving Certificate and proved conclusively that physical activity does drop off as students get older – interestingly the motor skill level does not appear to be adversely affected by the reduction in activity.

4. The transition years had their Irish Red Cross First Aid exams.

5. Local archaeologist Jacinta Kiely spoke to 1st and 3rd year History classes.

6. The Credit Union Debate semi-final was held. The College against St. Factna's de la Salle.

The group, Aileen O’Sullivan, Kirsty Simms, Ellen O’Regan, Josh Lenz-Lipitch, Meg O’Connell, Laura O’Donoghue, Eimear Walsh and Katie Moynihan, hope to continue research in this and related areas and wish to acknowledge the support and encouragement by Amanda Connell and teachers of the College
