The new Tourism PLC course is beginning in September 2008.
This course which is quality assured by the Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC) offers participants an opportunity to gain the experience, background and qualifications to work completely in the area of hospitality and tourism.
It focuses on areas such as Customer Service; Tourism Awareness; Reception Skills; Safety and Health at Work; Tourism and Recreation Studies; ICT and Work Experience.

Tourism course €175 per year.
There are two courses offered at PLC level with FETAC awards.
The Outdoor Education course
Two year full-time programme
The only prerequisite:
love of sailing/kayaking/windsurfing
or
a desire to become proficient in one or more of the above areas.
The following are the modules offered to students;
1. Dinghy Sailing
2. Kayaking
3. Windsurfing
4. Communications
5. I.T. Skills
6. Work Experience
7. Outdoor Leadership & Safety
8. Outdoor Recreation
FETAC Level 5 Modules for all.
The following are Additional Qualification Opportunities offered in the outdoor education course:
1. First Aid
2. VHF Limited Operators Licence
3. Yacht Master’s Course
4. Powerboat Handling
5. ECDL
The dates of the course are as follows;
Mid-September to mid-May
The times of the course are as follows;
9.30am – 3.30pm Monday – Friday
Regular school holidays
All participants are entitled to apply for a VEC Further Education grant.
The Course is Means tested which can be investigated by contacting your local VEC.

Progression from Level 5 FETAC to Levels 6, 7, 8 on National Framework of Qualifications
The Higher Education Links Scheme enables learners who have achieved a FETAC Level 5 award to apply for a higher education place in a range of higher education institutions. Specific FETAC Level 5 awards are linked to reserved places on higher education courses.
In addition, the Institutes of Technology and some other higher education institutions offer progression routes from FETAC Level 5 awards to a variety of higher education courses.
