1. Three students from 5th years, representing the schools Student Council, went to Dublin with their teacher Edward Sheehy. There they presented their project opposing the motion that "alcohol advertising in sport should be banned". They won first prize and are now off to Strasbourg to represent Ireland in October. Congratulations to Molly O'Mahony, Peadar O'Suilleabhain and Catriona Regan.
2.Our transition years are fundraising for the twinning of a school in Lesotho and a trip by 3 students and 2 teachers there in April. The aim is to create links with this school and aid in particular projects.
3. Transition years went to Cappanlea Co.Limerick for a week, where they stay over and get involved in many outdoor activities including a night camping.
4. Another group of Transition years headed to the North of Ireland for a week with our twinned school.
5.The Exam students had a trial run of the exam schedule when they had their pre exams for 2 weeks during February. Good Luck to all of them.
6.The school Open night is on February 28th and all are welcome! Transition year mini companies will be selling their wares at this occasion. It is also the chance to award the Wendy Smith Poetry awards.
7.Our school has been choosen to pilot a new second level course in Energy and it's conservation. The course is being facilitated by Sustainable Energy Ireland and all second years will be involved.
8.Girls Basketball was played in the college and the home team won and are through to the County Final next month.
9.The U14 hurlers have been playing throughout the month but with no success so far.
10. Senior Basketballers reached the All Ireland play offs. The team has been successful in Cork County so were put forward for the All Ireland. The team played both Bray and CNS and were unlucky not to qualify for the quarter finals.
11. John O'Callaghan in Leaving Cert was part of teh Cork County VEC football team that defeated Kerry in the VEC Munster final. Cork now face Galway in the Semi final in March.
12. The Senior Girls football team reached the semi final in their competition.
13. This month a Badminton club was set up for 1st and 2nd year girls. The club meets on Monday and Wednesday lunchtimes and has proved extremely popular.
14.The College Irish department has been shortlisted for a national prize by Foras na Gaeilge. A panel of judges visited the school to meet with the Irish teachers and students. It went very well for all concerned. In addition, Michael Collins, 2nd Year, will be taking part in Comhairle na nOg discussing topical issues of interest to the Youth of Ireland, as Gaeilge.
