As part of the Junior Certificate programme, CSPE gives students and teachers the opportunity to examine topical issues in the public domain.

The issue of Fair trade is important and the representative of the Skibbereen Fair trade committee Raymond Ruttle came to speak to all of the Junior classes about the issues. Each year there is a fairtrade fortnight during which the students in the school make an effort to do something to highlight the campaign.
