CSPE

Subjects

C.S.P.E stands for Civic,Social and Political Education and is offered to all Junior Certs as a mandatory subject. The aim of the course is to explore topics related to the everyday experiences of the students and to give them an opportunity to study and examine them.
In first year, the emphaisis is on rights and responsibilities with students looking at home and abroad for examples of this. They also examine Stewardship - the care of the environment.
In Second year, the students look at their communities and other groups of people in Ireland. They examine the problems facing the travelling community, people with disabilities and refugees. In this year, they also do an action project where they travel to COPE in Clonakilty.
In Third year, the subject focuses on Irish politics, and Irish government. The students prepare for the exam and also do an action project.
The teachers of CSPE are Julie McMahon, Valerie O'Connor, Catriona Regan, Lena Tiernan, and Kay Quinn.
