APRIL 2010

1. Schull Planetarium has announced a second visit by Dr. James F. Reilly, a NASA astronaut for 14years up until he retired in 2008. All are welcome to attend the re-launch of the Irish flag that he was given on his last visit. This unique tri-colour was taken into orbit on two separate occasions. The presentation ceremony will take place on the college grounds at 3pm on Saturday May 1st. Go to the planetarium link!

2. The French students were to be in the college after the Easter break, but due to flight restrictions, we will have to wait until May for their visit. The students from the college will be heading over in early May.

3. One of the earliest member of staff in the College, Mr Luke Nolan, retired recently. The college staff and students wish him the best in his retirement.

4.The 3rd Schull Adventure race was held on a glorious sunny day with a strong on shore breeze, which meant a shorter route for the kayakers, much to their relief. The students and teachers were in groups of four and had to kayak, orienteer, run and cycle over the course around the college and Colla road. There was great excitment in the school, and the report will be available soon!

5. The boy's U14 footballers played recently and won their game and are now into the county semi-final. Check out their link.

6. All the 5th years went to UCC to a career day.

7. All the leaving certificates are presently at their oral exams and getting ready for the practical assessments. Good luck to them all!

8.Practical exams include for leaving certificate - Engineering, Construction, Ag. Science, Art, and LCVP
Practical exams for the Junior certs include Home Economics, Metalwork, Woodwork and Art Craft and design.

9. Ice cream day is to be held soon in the college.

10. The fourth years are organising a soccer world cup on Wednesday April 28th, with teams from other schools playing the college teams.

11. The fourth years also have entered a film for the Corona Film festival in Schull in May. It is based on the story of Gracie Blue. The students involved are Connie Mc Kenna, Ellen O'Regan, Eimear Walsh, Adam Collins, Aileen O'Sullivan and Diarmaid O'Callaghan.

12. In the SPHE classes, the students are learning about Alcohol and its abuse. A speaker from Bantry Mr. Damien White will talk to all Junior Cert classes.


13. 2nd Year CSPE, class are going to COPE in Clonakilty to meet the clients.

14. 3rd year CSPE, had a Fairtrade awareness bakesale and survey to make the school students more aware of the benefits of buying Fairtrade.
