Clubs and societies

Amnesty school group was set up again in 2006, with much interest.
There was fundraising during the year to affiliate the club with the Irish Section of Amnesty International. Some of these funds where used to post 100 christmas cards to prisoners of conscience. The group invited Joan Giler, who had visited Dafur, to talk to our students. She came with a very informative presentation for all senior classes. We also bought amnesty hoodies for all the members.

In 2007,our Amnesty group performed a 4 minute production for the Christmas concert, to publicise the work of Amnesty. Well done to all in the school amnesty group!
Also during the year, the group set up a junior amnesty group in the local primary school and a stall was set up on the open night of the school, with a petition to close Guantanimo bay detention centre.
The students also sold friendship bracelets and Fairtrade chocolate to promote fairtrade. The Schull Community College Amnesty group would like to wish all the Leaving Cert students, who worked so hard for this group all year, the very best in their exams. We look forward to another interesting year in September and hope for many more new members!
